The entry is the first sentence your house says out loud, and lately we have all noticed ours was starting every conversation with a coat pile.
Here is why that sentence matters. Guests form an opinion about the rest of a house in about ten seconds, and buyers form it faster. A confused entry with shoe drift, a bench buried in mail, and a console doing junk drawer duty tells everyone that the rest of the house is improvising too. A composed entry says the opposite: someone lives here, and someone thinks here.
The season's guidance agrees. Shea McGee's fall swaps, as covered by Homes & Gardens, amount to putting away the lighter summer accessories and bringing out pieces with a little more weight and character, consoles, shelves, and tables with presence. Heavier pieces do not crowd a small space, they ground it, which is the exact opposite of what most people assume about a narrow hallway.
